Editorial Mission

Refrigerants.net publishes technical reference content, comparisons and research tools focused on refrigerant properties, applications, safety, regulations and lower-GWP transition.

Editorial principle: technical accuracy, source quality and application context take priority over simplified conclusions.
  • We avoid universal “best refrigerant” claims.
  • We separate market transition from retrofit compatibility.
  • We distinguish climate metrics, safety classification, equipment design and regulatory approval.

Primary Sources First

Not all sources carry the same evidentiary weight. Critical technical and regulatory claims should be traceable to stronger sources wherever practical.

Level 1 — Government & RegulationExamples: U.S. EPA, EUR-Lex / European Commission and national regulators. Used for compliance dates, sector restrictions and legal thresholds.
Level 2 — Standards & Technical BodiesExamples: ASHRAE, ISO and UNEP. Used for designations, safety classifications and technical frameworks.
Level 3 — Manufacturer / OEM DocumentationTechnical data, SDS, equipment manuals and application guidance are used for product- and system-specific context.
Level 4 — Secondary Industry SourcesUsed for market context, discovery and trend identification, not as the preferred final authority for critical claims.
03 · Data

Technical Data Standards

We aim to keep refrigerant designation, composition, safety class, GWP, application role and pressure-temperature information internally consistent and source-aware.

GWP reference basis

GWP values can differ by assessment report, rule or reference table. Where practical, Refrigerants.net uses a consistent site-wide basis and avoids silently mixing conflicting or older values.

Pressure-temperature data

P-T charts and calculations are reference aids. Source dataset, units and blend bubble/dew context matter and should be identified where relevant.

Application language

Application examples describe market or equipment roles. They do not automatically establish approval for a specific system.

04 · Regulations

Regulation Content Standards

Regulatory summaries should identify the jurisdiction, equipment category or sector, relevant compliance date and official source where practical.

  • We distinguish product rules from system rules.
  • We avoid headline simplifications such as “R410A is banned” when the actual rule is category- and date-specific.
  • For U.S. content, Technology Transitions GWP restrictions and SNAP end-use acceptability are treated as separate frameworks.
  • Time-sensitive regulation pages should be reviewed when meaningful changes are identified.
05 · Replacement

Replacement & Retrofit Language

A refrigerant may replace the market role of another refrigerant in new equipment without being suitable for use in existing equipment.
  • Alternative ≠ drop-in replacement.
  • Market replacement ≠ retrofit compatibility.
  • New-equipment transition ≠ legacy-system conversion.
  • Lower GWP ≠ approved retrofit.
06 · Safety

Safety Content Standards

Safety classification describes refrigerant hazard characteristics, not total system risk. Equipment design, charge, pressure, materials, location, standards and applicable codes remain important.

  • Class A does not mean harmless.
  • A2L does not mean nonflammable.
  • A1 does not mean low pressure.
  • “Natural” does not mean automatically safer.

We do not intend to publish unsupported bypass instructions, unsafe field-conversion procedures or unverified charging/retrofit directions.

Tools & Calculators

The site includes the Refrigerant Finder, Refrigerant Comparison, GWP Calculator, CO₂e Calculator and Pressure-Temperature Chart.

Refrigerants.net tools support research, screening and calculation. They do not provide engineering certification, equipment approval or regulatory compliance determinations.
08 · AI

AI-Assisted Workflows

Refrigerants.net may use software and AI-assisted workflows for research organization, drafting, data structuring, editing or quality checks. Technical claims, regulatory information and critical numeric data are expected to be reviewed against authoritative sources before publication.

AI-assisted workflows do not change the source hierarchy or the requirement to preserve technical context.

Commercial Independence & Sponsored Content

Corrections Policy

Readers may report an outdated value, broken source, regulatory change, incorrect classification or other technical inconsistency.

Where possible, include the stronger or more current primary source so the issue can be reviewed against authoritative evidence.

Updates & Review

Regulations, standards, source links and technical reference bases can change. Pages may be reviewed when meaningful changes are identified, new authoritative information becomes available or a correction is submitted.

Refrigerants.net does not promise a fixed review interval for every page.
