How to Read the Results

A shortlist, not an automatic refrigerant approval

The finder deliberately separates application fit from final engineering approval. A refrigerant can look attractive on GWP and still be unsuitable because of safety class, charge limits, system architecture, component compatibility or local rules.

Application comes first

Candidate refrigerants are first screened around real HVAC/R use cases such as split AC, food retail, chillers, mobile AC and industrial refrigeration.

Safety changes system design

A1, A2L, A3 and B2L options have different flammability and toxicity characteristics. Safety class is a design input, not just a label.

Region affects the shortlist

GWP limits and placing-on-the-market rules differ by sector and jurisdiction, so the same refrigerant can have a different long-term role in different markets.

Why the finder does not say “best refrigerant”

There is no universal winner. Lower GWP, nonflammability, efficiency, operating pressure, component availability, service practices and regulatory longevity can point in different directions. The tool therefore ranks candidates and explains trade-offs instead of declaring one refrigerant universally superior.
