R410A Refrigerant Gas

R410A is a near-azeotropic A1 HFC blend of R32 and R125 historically used in purpose-designed residential and commercial air-conditioning and heat-pump equipment.
It operates at substantially higher pressure than R22 and should only be used in equipment designed and approved for R410A; current new-equipment markets are increasingly transitioning to lower-GWP refrigerants.
Reference packaging includes 800 g, 2.7 kg, 5.6 kg and 11.3 kg formats. Confirm current specification, valve and cylinder configuration before ordering.

Description
R410A Refrigerant Gas
R410A is a near-azeotropic HFC refrigerant blend containing 50% R32 and 50% R125 by mass. It is classified A1 and has extremely small temperature glide.
The blend became a dominant refrigerant in residential and light-commercial air conditioning and heat pumps designed for its higher operating pressure. It was a new-equipment platform rather than a direct R22 retrofit refrigerant.
R410A has zero ODP but a 100-year GWP of 2,088 on the EPA Technology Transitions reference basis. New HVAC platforms are increasingly moving to lower-GWP A2L or other application-specific refrigerants, while R410A remains important for installed-base service.
See the R410A refrigerant profile and R410A replacement guide for current transition context.

Typical R410A Applications
R410A should be used only in systems designed for its pressure and refrigerant characteristics. The following are established installed-base and approved-equipment use contexts.
Residential Split Air Conditioning
R410A became a major refrigerant for residential split AC systems designed specifically for its higher operating pressure.
Light Commercial Air Conditioning
Packaged, split and other commercial HVAC equipment has a large installed R410A service base.
Heat Pumps
R410A has been widely used in air-source heat pumps and related comfort-heating/cooling platforms.
VRF / Multi-Split Equipment
Many installed VRF and multi-split systems use R410A under manufacturer-specific charge and piping requirements.
Packaged HVAC Systems
Rooftop and other packaged systems designed for R410A remain common in the installed base.
Service & Maintenance
Existing systems continue to create demand for correct leak repair, recovery, recharge and end-of-life refrigerant management.

R410A Safety and Handling Considerations
R410A is A1, but its relatively high operating pressure makes pressure-rated tools, cylinders and service procedures especially important.
Higher Operating Pressure
Use manifolds, hoses, recovery equipment and cylinders rated for R410A service pressure; do not use R22-only service hardware.
Cold & Ventilation Hazards
Liquid refrigerant can cause frostbite, and large vapor releases can displace oxygen in enclosed spaces.
Lubricant & Cleanliness
R410A systems commonly use POE lubricant, which is moisture-sensitive. Follow manufacturer evacuation and contamination-control procedures.
R410A operates at substantially higher pressure than R22. It must not be charged into an R22 system unless the equipment has been specifically designed or manufacturer-approved for such a conversion.
R410A Product Specification & Documentation
R410A supply should match the standard 50/50 blend composition and current batch, cylinder and transport documentation.
| Refrigerant Identity | R410A |
|---|---|
| Nominal Composition | R32 50% / R125 50% by mass |
| Supplied Form | Liquefied compressed refrigerant blend |
| Transport Classification | Class 2.2 |
| Batch Documentation | Confirm current specification and SDS with the order |
R410A Refrigerant Packaging Options
The supplied product information includes small and standard cylinder sizes for R410A.
| Packaging Type | Reference Size | Supply Note |
|---|---|---|
| Small Container | 800 g | Small-volume distribution |
| Cylinder | 2.7 kg / 5.6 kg / 11.3 kg | Service, wholesale and distributor supply |
The source files show inconsistent large-cylinder fill weights for R410A, so no bulk fill weight is stated here. Confirm any large-volume requirement directly before ordering.
R410A Remains a Large Installed Base While New HVAC Moves Lower-GWP
R410A remains highly relevant because millions of installed air conditioners and heat pumps still require service, recovery and end-of-life management.
For important new U.S. residential and light-commercial HVAC categories, current Technology Transitions rules favor refrigerants below the 700-GWP threshold, such as R32 and R454B in approved new-equipment platforms.
A market replacement is not the same as a retrofit. Use the R410A Replacement Guide to compare new-equipment pathways without assuming an existing R410A system can simply be recharged with another refrigerant.
- Existing R410A system: follow OEM service instructions and applicable service rules.
- New HVAC equipment: evaluate certified R32, R454B or other approved product platforms by market.
- System replacement: compare safety class, GWP, efficiency, equipment availability and local regulation together.
R32 and R454B are A2L refrigerants and require equipment designed and listed for their safety and thermodynamic characteristics. Similar application does not establish retrofit compatibility.
R410A Refrigerant Frequently Asked Questions
What is R410A refrigerant?
R410A is a near-azeotropic HFC blend containing 50% R32 and 50% R125 by mass.
What is the GWP of R410A?
The U.S. EPA Technology Transitions reference table lists R410A at a 100-year GWP of 2,088.
Is R410A flammable?
R410A is classified A1, meaning lower toxicity and no flame propagation under the refrigerant safety classification framework.
Where is R410A used?
R410A has a very large installed base in residential and commercial air conditioning, heat pumps, packaged systems and VRF equipment.
Can R410A replace R22?
No direct retrofit should be assumed. R410A operates at substantially higher pressure and is intended for equipment designed for it.
Can R32 be put into an R410A system?
Not as a universal field conversion. R32 is A2L and requires equipment designed and approved for its charge, safety and operating characteristics.
What packaging is available for R410A?
The supplied product list includes 800 g, 2.7 kg, 5.6 kg and 11.3 kg formats.
Is R410A being replaced in new equipment?
Yes in many markets and product categories, but installed R410A systems remain important and new-equipment transition rules should not be confused with service rules.
